DO YOU NEED NEW HEADSHOT?!
Unbelievable offer
 $150 = workshop
 Personal Assessment & Photo Shoot

Just: $150 for a new headshot
Includes a personal assessment day by a working casting director and professional
photographer

Did you know your headshot is about the size of a quarter on the casting directors
computer? It must be something that catches their eye so they click on your photo.
If not then you are just another actor who got passed by because your photo did not
stand out.

In the spirit of the new year, Crystal Casting and Tom Tkach photography have
created an unbelievable offer. Spend a day with a casting director discussing your
look and ways you could be marketing yourself in a better way. In this unique
workshop learn what casting directors look for in a headshot and how to make yours
the best that it can be. Session is 12:30-4:30pm on Sunday Jan 17th. Then on a
separate day you will get a photo shoot with Tom and have one of your looks
photographed. Tom Tkach is known as one of Toronto's top professional photographers.
www.tomtkach.com. Tom will also be attending the workshop for a short time to assess
the students and determine along with Crystal what the best 1st look would be and if
the person would like extra looks then we could suggest different ones as well.

Please email me photo and resume to: crystalcasting@yahoo.ca

Class must be full in order to have a workshop or we can push the date to February
or March.

Special Note about workshops:
*The presence of a casting director at a workshop is neither a guarantee nor a
promise of employment. The intent of the class is solely educational. Attending a
workshop is not a way to obtain employment as an actor. Such contact as you may have
with a casting director at a workshop does not always result in any further contact
with that casting director. The casting director has insight into the audition
process. It is highly recommended that active working professional actors should be
in a class at least once a week to maintain sharpness and skill improvement. Take
various workshops and classes to gain the most knowledge in your career

Willie Anicic

Here's more info on the proposed McGinty GST/PST harmonization, otherwise known as
"Humungous Sales Tax."
This email does not address the new housing market.  The following article may be of
interest to you if you live in the GTA.

 http://www.yourhome.ca/homes/article/612167

Government wants to apply new taxes to all!!!!

Please look below and send a message like this one to our premier (link attached
below):

"I am against applying HST to those products and services that are not charged PST
right now!!!

I believe HST should only be applied to those that currently GST and PST are applied. "

As you all know, 'Pinocchio' lied again. NO NEW TAXES!

As a concerned taxpayer I feel it is important to have you all understand what the
new HST or "blended tax" means to Ontarians. It amazes me that this announcement has
slipped by without a ripple, and yet when I tell people about the impact to them
they are all shocked.

The intended purpose is to blend the GST and the PST into one tax.  This will cut
down the paperwork burden for Ontario businesses and, in  theory, lessen staff by
merging both departments. This could be a noble  attempt to cut costs. There is just
one problem. Rather than just  blending the products and services that now charge
both taxes, the  provincial government has decided that it will apply this new tax
to  almost all goods and services that you do not pay PST on now!

You are about to become the victim of the largest tax hike in our history. How will
this affect you? Let’s start with just a few things  that are to be charged the
extra 8% and see if it will affect you or  your family.

Gasoline
Home heating fuel
Water
Hydro
Used cars
Government and city services
any service you now use for your home or business such as repairs, professional
services of any kind, construction materials etc.
These are just a few.

See this article about how the 1000.00 BRIBE they are offering will not even cover ½
of the increased cost to the average family. This tax hits Ontarians hard, but
ESPECIALLY the low income ones! They will have an 8% increase in everyday life, and
yet you will not see their benefits or salaries rise.

http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/269917

Actually almost everything currently without PST in your life except  children’s
clothing, prescriptions, diapers, and feminine hygiene  products will now cost you
8% more. Oh and here is a kicker. The fuel  tax will slide with the increasing cost
of that fuel.

Our premier is counting on taxpayers to do what they always do when a new tax is
added. Nothing! It is very important that you start to research and discuss this
with your friends and family. It is not too late to stop this if you are willing to
do something as send an email to the premier asking him either to a) Stop the tax
grab all together or  b) do what was originally intended and blend the tax on the
products  that now have both taxes and not to extend the new tax to everything else.
If you just sit there remember you lose the right to complain about  taxes ever
again. Get UP and start telling everyone about this injustice  and we can stop this
today. Don't think your email will not count. Most  MP's get 10 emails, they
consider it a catastrophe!

Send your objection to:

Storyline and Comments

Storyline: A small town in Florida was shocked by the quadruple homicide at a local manufacturing company. Nelson Serrano, George Gonsalves and George Patisso were all partners at a manufacturing plant. When George and Phil squeezed out Nelson, he became prime suspect number one. Tommy Ray, part of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, worked feverishly to catch a killer. It took four years and the combined efforts of two countries to bring the killer, Nelson Serrano, to justice.

Comments Looking for experienced talent who have some credits on their resume. Also would like to audition some fresh faces to the docudrama re-enactment genre. It would be good to have a mix of experienced talent and some new faces. Also looking for actors who are prepared for their audition. There is a scripted scene to memorize and an improv to prepare. We may or may not do an improv depending on time. Many of the talent will be paired up to audition. Please be on time. Time changes are not ideal but would rather change the time than regret talent. It is extremely important that talent bring a headshot and resume to the audition as we are casting by taking pictures and by look as well as casting great actors. (Remember you should look like your headshot - that is your first promise). 12 hour days.

Submission Instructions: Please submit online. *I would like to start putting the session together on Monday April 13 but don't know how many agents/actors are taking the Holiday Monday so late submissions always accepted. To view photos of the real people please visit: http://www.crystalcasting.blogspot.com/ Also, visit the blog to see when the parts have been cast. It is important to submit a colour headshot or snapshot for consideration, ideally we are trying to match skin tones, eye colour, hair colour etc. I include a full body if you have one and height & weight too please if it is not on the resume. Black and white photos are not ideal for casting look-a- likes but if that's all you have please submit anyways. Thank you very much.

THE FEMALE EYE FILM FESTIVAL

That's a Wrap

The Awards

*THE FEMALE EYE FILM FESTIVAL WRAPS UP ITS 7TH YEAR *

*AND PRESENTS AWARDS TO OUTSTANDING FILMMAKERS AND SCREENWRITERS*

*(Toronto, ON – March 31, 2009): *Filmmakers and screenwriters from all over
the globe including Spain, UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Japan, Australia,  the
US and Canada, travelled to Toronto to participate in and celebrate in the *
7th Annual Female Eye Film Festival* (March 25th – 29th, 2009).  In a shaky
economy where other film festivals have had to close up shop, *The Female
Eye Film Festival* held strong with several sold-out screenings as well as
unprecedented attendance at screenings and panel discussions.

* *

*FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS*

The opening night gala film *HOUNDDOG*, starring Dakota Fanning and Robin
Wright-Penn was well-received with Q & A lasting over an hour with its
director, Deborah Kampmeier.  Ms. Kampmeier travelled from New York City to
attend the special gala presentation as well as take part in the Director’s
Panel Discussion.

Best of Show Deborah Kampmeier & Founder Leslie Ann Coles

Thursday boasted a wonderful and well-attended and Industry Panel
Discussion, titled *The Weight of Women – Realities vs. Perceptions of Women
in the Entertainment Industry.  *The panel was moderated by Sadia Zaman
(Executive Director, WIFT) and featured Linda Schuyler (Recipient of the
2009 Female Eye Maverick Award, Co-Creator / Executive Producer of
Degrassi), Karen King (Production Executive, CanWest Global), Carol Whiteman
(Producer - Women In The Director’s Chair, President & CEO - Creative Womens
Workshops), and Christopher Heard (Author / Broadcaster).

Participating screenwriters had the auspicious opportunity of taking part in
the GOOD TO GO WORKSHOP programmed by Mark Sanders of FilmPaniK on Friday.
The GOOD TO GO WORKSHOP presented opportunities for screenwriters to pitch
their screenplays and receive feedback from Industry guests Kate Harrison,
Elizabeth Madariaga (E1), Mellissa Morgan (Whizbang Films), Avi Federgreen
(Producer, ONE WEEK), and Phil Stilman (Lions Gate).

On Saturday, PCI Sony hosted an informative workshop about the latest
cameras and technology including PDW-700  XDCAM HD 422 Camcorder, PMW-EX3
XDCAM EX Camcorder and Final cut pro with XDCAM workflow.

Following the camera workshop, award-winning WIDC Producer Carol Whiteman
hosted and produced the *CTV WIDC CAM* panel discussion involving industry
executives Trish Williams (CTV) and Rachel Fulford (E1 Entertainment) along
with Telefilm Canada’s Anne Frank, shared their tips for advancing one’s
career and projects in the world of film and TV. Filmmakers and audience
members raved about the panel and insisted that this event was one of the
highlights of the festival.

Sunday marked the close of the Festival with Susan Luciani’s film *BURLESQUE
FAIRYTALES*.  Following the closing night film, was an intimate tribute
screening to Female Eye Honourary Director 2009 Award Recipient Patricia
Rozema.  Ms. Rozema led an enlightening Q & A that explained her journey as
a female filmmaker. When asked if she had any mantras that she could share
with young filmmakers, Rozema advised them to "Make it simple but bursting
at the seams. Never fall back on excuses. I choose to believe that it is now
to your advantage to be a woman in the film industry. That may or may not be
true but you may as well believe it if it keeps you working and hoping and
dreaming and preparing your story into existence. Remember, it's not about
you, your looks or age or gender, its about the work. Never forget that its
about the work - a series of shots in a row that either add up to something
or not."

And a thank you to all who had come out to audition at The Duke of York for Thursday's Auditions.  The evening went a wee bit longer than anticipated to accommodate the regular karaoke patrons.  There had been so many singers show up that we could not audition all of them.   We had the owner extend his hours till 2:30 in the morning and we still had 10 singers to go.  To those people I sincerely apologize.  All the karaoke singers were most excellent people and very patient. The room was packed with some amazing talent and everyone who attended had a great time including myself.  I had to admit one lady Karaoke singer gave me goose bumps not once but twice.  Please stay in touch for future audition opportunities.

Artist Bio

Artist Willie Anicic born in Toronto on March 12, 1955 comes with a life time of experience in the visual and performing arts bringing artistry to metal sculpture like no other sculptor could.  Willie’s sculptures and paintings are like no other.  His sculptures are of the most unique and eclectic filled with wit, whimsical humour with sometimes a bit of black added for depth which must be assumed that this art can only come from a life long pursuit of art and mind.

Born of European parents, with a father whose own work has been deemed as an outsider artist, it is not surprising that he has adopted a traditional apprenticeship-based approach to any endeavour that he has pursued including owning and running a casting agency called  Head Hunters Casting, which he founded in January, 2002.  Willie Anicic also is an accomplished actor and musician, he specializes in the Harmonica and Saxophone playing live and recording with several different bands.

Willie’s loves for the visual arts and the pursuant of sculpture merging with his mentor and father who also worked in metal as a sculptor combined traditional iron work with some eroticism attached to it that  gave way to Willie’s unique slant to sculpture.

Anicic brings years of experience to his position as a metal sculptor and has won him, “Best of Show” and accolades regarding working in this very tough demanding medium, the fabricating industry.  Willie is an expert welder learned in the use of many types of metal welding and the use of  fabricating equipment.   This knowledge gives Willie the freedom and flow to create, combine metals and fabricate on a professional level to bring the best and most unique art sculpture there is.   His wide range in experience from structural welding, pipe welding, welder fitter experience and miniature welding with zero tolerance has given Willie Anicic the added capability in creating original one of a kind jewellery.  Anicic has a wide genre of sculptural interests ranging from figurative human forms, furniture, gothic weaponry and whimsical balancing pieces along with jewellery.  During his tenure with the visual arts, Anicic is responsible for the design, creation and standard for the first realistic metal eye for sculpture.  Willie is the creator and designer of the “Toronto Female Eye Film Festival” award.

He has displayed his work in many locations, including the Del Bello Gallery, the Abbozzo Gallery and Avalon Fine Jewellery among others. His work has also appeared on television shows, commercials and music videos.

All his works have been sold and collected and enjoyed by all including non art collectors.  That is an achievement of the third kind.

Unlike so many other career paths that could be characterized by the word “eclectic,” Anicic’s vocational explorations have resulted in a powerful convergence – an extraordinary appreciation of creative talent, and the many ways in which it can express itself.

Anicic enjoys a superb reputation throughout the acting community. Moreover, his many artistic pursuits have resulted in a unique “cross-pollination,” exposing him to a great variety of personalities.

Willie’s art is derived from pure love of the art and the creation of mind to sculpture.  The challenge is to speak through sculpture and paint.  Willie has made this his life.  His body of work is his proof.   Willies creativity as an artist is endless in its range and promises to bring nothing more than pure art for the future.

Description

---DATE SUBJECT TO CHANGE--

Hey everyone, myself (Tim Bissell) and Craig Watkins are starting to put the wheels into motion for our first feature. A Film Noir titled "Another Man's Son" so we are appealing to the vibrant acting community of the Hamilton area for help.

If you are interested in auditioning please contact me and specify which role/s you are interested in auditioning for. I will then send you a scene to practice.

The roles available are as follows in order of time on screen (most being at the top):

Mayor Richard Kendrick (50) - A cold man who likes to control others and speaks a language of subtle intimidation. Major Role.

Sid Cooper (30) - An energetic local news reporter with a knack for exaggeration and a nose for scandal. Major Role.

Polly Hazelle (32) - A bitter housewife who is jealous of her husband's career and freedom. Supporting Role.

Daisy McIntyre (28) - A slick and sexy femme fatale who knows how to play "the girl next door". Supporting Role.

Jason Hazelle (15) - Uninterested and apathetic teenager full of angst. Minor Role.

Rosa Martinez (40) - Bubbly Mexican maid. Minor Role.

Suzanne Kendrick (50) - An embattled and desperate socialite. Minor Role.

Detective Alvin Pearce (28) - A shifty and brash homicide detective. Minor Role.

Jean Devoire (35) - The chief medical examiner close to cracking from financial pressure. One Scene.

Marc-Andre Devoire (35) - Jean's brutish and aggressive husband. One Scene.

Edgar Chance (30) - Stressed out newspaper editor who wants things by the book. One Scene.

Hamid (40) - Landlord of Lebanese descent with a temper. Very Small Role.

Officer Duggan (25) - Cold hearted drone willing to take out bloody orders. One Scene.

Officer Curtis (25) - Just as cold as Duggan but with a slightly lower I.Q. One Line.

Radio Anchor (Voice Only) - Slick and professional. Two Short Monologues.

Mourner (55) - Warm hearted man. One Line.

Background Actors - Males and Females, all ages, all shapes and sizes.

The ages are approximate and refer to the characters only, if you can pull off the age required it doesn't matter what your real age is.

This is an independent production funded from Craig and I's shallow pockets. So unfortunately none of these acting opportunities are paid.

We will be actively seeking distribution for this film and will take it to as many North American film festivals as possible and if we make a considerable amount of money then we will show our appreciation to the cast in kind.

We look forward to meeting all of you and working with some of you! If you are interested in a role within the production crew feel free to contact me also.

Thanks,

Tim Bissell

PS. Tell your friends!

Urgent

Audition Notice

Last minute call for talent

Due to the very specific criteria our clients have requested regarding certain expertise, and body types that the talent is required to possess in order to land these roles.  This lack of response has presented a very interesting sort of gambling situation. And it would only be my duty to let you in on the odds of landing this.  Right now odds of landing this role have turned more in favor to the ones who will actually show up for this.  If there is any one out that falls under these guide lines and matches up what we’re looking, for I say you still have time to play this out.  Take advantage of the odds.  Please forward us a picture and your experience and please do not audition if you don’t fit the bill and the cloths sizes.  This is a last minute and final call and we do apologize for the short notice.  Please leave you’re preferred time, your similarity to these characters and confirmation that you can make it in for today.  Give us a call here at Head Hunters Casting ASAP by phone and email.  We’ll be standing by the phones till the very last second.  We’ll get back to you ASAP.  Thank you and have a great weekend.  Willie

A

Paul Brandt Music Video

We are currently working on casting for an upcoming Paul Brandt music video
"risk".

Wondering if you would have any suggestions for us - or be able to pass on
my details.

Here is what we are doing - and who we are looking for...

As we know, we can not achieve great heights without risk. On every level in
our lives, we are faced with decisions that require the acceptance or denial

help out where we can to help further young, up and coming artists in their quest for excellences.

Bob Eckley

Bob is a fifty five and, like Colin has worked hard his whole life to get what he wants and now that he's there he feels that it's time to relax and enjoy the company he has created. He is Colin's boss and appreciates the effort put forth by Collin. He has become overweight in his old age.

(Series Regular) Female Scientist Gender: Female Age: 30-45 yrs
We're looking for a third host for this show - female, authoritative (as a counterweight to two young male high energy hosts). This is like the Q character from the Bond films.

She needs to be a science generalist; someone interested in conducting or overseeing the experiments on the show.

We're open to science journalists, commentators, writers, more social than hard scientists (like psychologists). She has to be "middle-aged" i.e. not 20-ish. and very comfortable onscreen.

Would be needed 1-2 days per episode if it goes to series.

A memory specialist female host for the pilot has already been cast but we are looking for a long term general host if it goes to series.

No travel required for this role.

Please note science background if not obvious on the resume.

Storyline:   Karma Balint, a beautiful 21 year-old girl from Russia, is on a mission - to infiltrate the world of Toronto’s underground sex trade and make every person responsible for her sister’s disappearance pay dearly for their crimes. But things are easier said than done. For starters, Karma is mute, making communication with others difficult. Secondly, she is penniless. Lastly, Anna was her only living family member - both parents died when the sisters were in their teens. The only thing she has going for her are her wits, her looks, and the self defense training taught to her by her Father, who was in the Russian military. Once in Toronto Karma resides in the sleazy world of airport motels, strip clubs and massage parlours, violently extracting her revenge one by one. Along the way she is beaten, raped, and hunted by both the police and the criminals. Luckily, thanks to her survival skills and the help of an unusual ally, Karma manages to not only get revenge, but uncovers the truth about her sister’s disappearance. The revelation leads to a shocking conclusion that forever changes the life of the once innocent Karma.

Disneyesque style. Aladdin meets My Fair Lady.   Synopsis: Hadassah lives in an unfair world where men are at the top and women are at the bottom and where Persians are at the top and Jews are at the bottom. But she's a dreamer who thinks the world can change. So she takes on a new identity, wins the Miss Persia beauty pageant, and becomes Queen of Persia!

But when the evil Royal Advisor, Haman, concocts a nefarious plan against Hadassah's people, she must decide whether or not to speak up. If anyone finds out her secret identity, she risks losing everything - maybe even her life…

Characters

1. KING - Lead - 20 to 30 - Male - Any Race

VOICE RANGE
: LYRIC TENOR
King of
Persia . Sweet and likeable but simple-minded and easily-influenced. Strong childish quality to his personality. Wants to please. Unintended comedic qualities.

2. HAMAN - Lead - 30 to 50 - Male - Any Race

VOICE RANGE : BASS/BARITONE
The KING’s conniving advisor. He is a sexist, racist, and power-hungry megalomaniac who is highly intelligent. His high intellect and low respect for the KING spurs him on to try to usurp the KING.

3. Mordecai - Lead - 40 to 60 - Male - Any Race

HADASSAH’s uncle and guardian – her father-figure. Old-fashioned. Father-knows-best attitude yet loves Hadassah.

4. Vashti - Lead - 20 to 30 - Female - Any Race

VOICE RANGE
: SOPRANO
The first Queen of Persia, a beauty. Vain and strong-minded. Her strong-mindedness and arrogance lead to her downfall. She becomes a humbled servant and a dear and trusted friend to HADASSAH.

5. Zeresh - Actor - 35 to 50 - Female - Any Race

VOICE RANGE
: ALTO
HAMAN’s wife. She is a domineering wife who has little to no respect for her husband. In reality she “wears the pants around the house”. Tough, domineering, superficial, and maybe more of a “bad guy” than her husband.

6. Biggy - Actor - 20 to 40 - Male - Any Race

VOICE RANGE
: BASS
The KING’s personal guard. A portly and jovial fellow. Brainless. Comical. Amoral. Does HAMAN’s bidding. Best friends with TERRY.

7. Terry - Actor - 20 to 40 - Male - Any Race

VOICE RANGE : TENOR/HIGH BARITONE
The KING’s other personal guard. Skinny and happy-go-lucky. Also brainless. Also comical & amoral. He and BIGGY are a duo. Also does HAMAN’s bidding.

8. Zethar - Actor - 25 to 40 - Male - Any Race

Court
Jester. More of an entertainer than a jester. He is only a mask, as it were. No one knows exactly who he is. He’s anything the KING wants him to be – anything that guarantees his safety and place. Seemingly full of life. Very much like a circus barker.

9. Chorus / Various Parts - Ensemble - 20 to 50 - Any Gender - Any Race

Chorus members
(chorus includes various speaking / singing parts)

Canadian Idol

Audition Dates

Your chance to get within spitting distance of Ben Mulroney is mere weeks away. Canadian Idol has announced its 10-city audition tour. The psychological torture of thousands of would-be superstars begins Jan. 26 in Edmonton, and will work its way across the country until heading back to Toronto April 19 and 20.

The announcement generated criticism from Idol fans in Saskatchewan, which has been dropped from the tour schedule this year.

"I think it's more than a little bit ironic that we are apparently good enough for the Rolling Stones, but no longer good enough apparently for Canadian Idol," said premier Brad Wall, reports the Canadian Press.

Like last year, singers are welcome to bring musical instruments with them into their auditions. According to the Canadian Press, nearly half of last year's contestants did just that. Guitars, keyboards, sousaphones: it's all fair game - and in fact, American Idol is cribbing that gimmick for its latest season, set to premiere Jan. 15.

In case you'd care to embarrass yourself in front of the judges, the nation and your mom, here's the complete list of audition stops. Good luck, and don't sing Heart's "Alone." We've called dibs.

Audition Tour Dates:

-Edmonton, Jan. 26-27, West Edmonton Mall
-Calgary, Feb 2-3, Sunridge Mall
-Vancouver, Feb. 9-10, Metropolis at Metrotown
-Winnipeg, Feb. 23-24, St. Vital Centre
-Hamilton, March 1-2, location to be announced
-Ottawa, March 8-9, location to be announced
-Montreal, March 15-16, location to be announced
-Halifax, March 29-30, location to be announced
-St. John's, N.L., April 12, location to be announced

Auditions
for

Unicorn Theatre

Robin Hood

A Comedy

Unicorn Theatre invites actors in Grades 2 to 12 to audition for its new comedy,

The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood, on

Jan. 26 and 27 at the Bay Community Centre, 11 Station Rd.,

Head of St. Margarets Bay.

Auditions are by appointment only.

The play is a far-from-serious take on the story of Robin Hood in which Robin,

with the help of a Merry-Man-wannabe simply known as the Town’s Guy,

turns this once-simple legend into a trip through Sherwood Forest with surprises at every turn.

The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood is not a musical,

so no singing ability is required.

There is a cast of about 20, including

Robin Hood, Lady Marian, Prince John, the Sheriff of Nottingham and a

band of spoon-wielding Merry Men.

Actors, or their parents, wishing to book an audition should call the theatre at

857-2121.

Students praise National Theatre School print this article

DANETTE DOOLEY
Special to The Telegram

The National Theatre School of Canada is on the lookout for fresh talent.  Anyone interested in studying acting, playwrighting, production, set and costume design has until Feb. 15 to apply to the Montreal-based institution.
Megan Coles is in her second year of playwright studies at the school, which accepts only two new playwrighting students each year.
Coles, 26, is originally from Savage Cove on the Northern Peninsula. She has an English degree from Memorial University and spent some time teaching in Asia.
“I always knew I preferred writing. I just didn’t know how I was going to become a writer,” Coles said in St. John’s during her Christmas break.
Bridget Wareham is in her third and final year of the school’s acting program. A graduate of Bishop’s College in St. John’s, Wareham also has an English degree from MUN as well as a diploma in performance and communications media.
She’s also home for the holidays and joined Coles for an interview.
“After MUN, I applied to the National Theatre School and got in,” says the 24-year-old, who enjoyed acting in high school and university.
The school accepts only 12 actors each year.
The National Theatre School boasts that its students benefit from individualized training and daily contact with some of the best artists in the business.
“We have movement classes with the actors and theatre history with the playwrights,” Coles explains.
The playwrighting students are involved in three major and three secondary writing projects each year.
“The wrap-up will be the New Words Festival in our third year where we perform our plays in Montreal for the public,” Coles said.
Wareham said during the first year of the acting program, the focus is on movement and body exploration as well as acting. In the second year, you take what you learned and apply it to shows, she said.
“It’s a lot of creating your own work … and finding a story through movement,” she said. “(The actors) also dabble in writing for a 10-minute solo show where the writers have to act.”
The school graduates 90 students per year and almost all of them find jobs in their field of study, thanks to the school’s close association with the professional theatre community.
“If I wasn’t in the National Theatre School it, would have taken me about 15 years to meet the number of people I’ve met,” Coles said.
Once she’s finished her studies, Wareham plans to move to Toronto to pursue acting.
Coles would like to do a residency program as a playwright after graduation. She’d also like to finish the novel she started several years ago.
“I’d like to do a lot of writing and maybe make some movies,” Coles added.
The National Theatre School opened in 1960. According to its promotional material, its alumni can be found at Cirque du Soleil and Stratford festivals and behind the scenes of just about every Canadian stage, television and/or film production.
“It’s a very intense school and you’ve got to really want it,” Coles said.
“If you apply and get in, you’ll soon discover if it’s for you. And sending in your application might just be the best $60 that you’ve ever spent.”
Auditions will be taking place in Canadian cities — including St. John’s — between March and May.

Tuba Auditions

for

The Glenn Gould School of Music

The Glenn Gould School of Music will be holding auditions for tuba in early 2008.

The GGS is a professional studies program with a strong orchestral orientation, based in the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada.

The GGS accepts only enough players for one symphony orchestra, and as such, there is only one position for tuba.

The program offers a tremendous amount of performing opportunities, and is perfect for the advanced player looking to gain experience and refine their abilities.

Auditions are open to both graduate and undergraduate candidates.

In addition to their regular studies, students are offered master classes with renowned visiting brass artists.

In recent years these have included: Alan Baer, David Kirk, Wes Jacobs, Randy Hawes, Joe Alessi, John Kitzman, James Markey, Douglas Wright, Murray Crewe and Pete Sullivan.

This year’s tuba master class will be with Tony Kniffen.

Every diploma and degree student enrolled in The Glenn Gould School will receive financial aid,

making it significantly less of a financial burden when compared to the tuition costs of other prominent music schools.

Further information and applications can be obtained through the links below.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly at sasha.johnson@mcgill.ca should you have any additional questions.

Thanks,
Sasha Johnson
